Favorite plants from my plant samples

All of the Sample plants that I received this year were grown in two-gallon pots, with sungro XP substrate, in full sun. They were watered as needed and top dressed with osmocote slow release fertilizer. The following plants were my favorite from all of the samples given.

Proven Winners Double Up Series of Begonias: come in red, pink, and white. They were slow to establish but they took off and performed like champs from that point forward. Gorgeous plants that withstand all conditions.

Proven Winners Hibiscus Holy Grail. A marvelous plant with huge deep red flowers on dark a dark-leaved plant. Planted as a bare root, once it hit the soil it took off. It grew short (2.5 feet tall) with several stems and produced an abundance of flowers.
Angelonia Alonia Lavender. This plant has flowered all season, stayed upright, and draws the eye. Strong as a stand-alone plant. I can see it as a strong focal point in a combination planter.
Begonia I'conia Upright Sunshine is as advertised. Beautiful contrast from the leaves to the flowers. Very versatile and tough plant.
Proven Winners Scaevola Whirlwind Starlight. It took some time for me to warm up to it but it sure has grown on me. Nice tight habit, consistent flowering and color. It is a plant that once you have it, you can't imagine it not being a part of your garden.
Proven Winners Petunia Supertunia Royal Velvet Improved. Royal Velvet was a tried and true variety that was simply a workhorse. It would be a challenge to improve something that was already a showstopper. The habit is a bit tighter than Royal Velvet of the past and has a lovely full growth habit.

My favorite plant this year: Petunia Itsy Magenta from Syngenta. It was my favorite from the beginning to the end. Always covered in flowers, full foliage, and dainty flowers. This plant can stand up to all conditions and is so beautiful. You can order Itsy Magenta from: Barone Gardens (26 strip); Welby (102 cell); Malmborg (25 Pack); Millstadt (102 cell); Plantpeddler (50 Ecoliner); Wenke (102 cell); Lucas (51 cell); DGI (51 split); Mast (51 split); Gro 'n' Sell (51 cell); Syngenta (URCs)
